![]() Also, sometimes the scanner software does not correctly find the borders of the slide image. ![]() The ICE dust removal software option more than doubles scan time, but IMO it is worth enduring. In theory it can do 12 negatives, but the way my negatives were cut, 8-10 is the most I can usually do at once. I took apart my 3490 a couple times to clean under there, but I'm not sure I can if that occurs with the V600.Ĭouple more notes on the V600: It can only do four 35mm (135) slides at a time. Sometimes the underside of the platen can get dirty/foggy, perhaps from off-gassing of plastic components. I don't know the mechanism by which this happens, but cleaning everything (as mentioned above) tends to clear it. Sometimes a dirty source or scanner will produce a line in the scan, even across multiple scans. For negatives, have a lint-free lens cleaning cloth for gently wiping them clean, if necessary. I recommend wiping down those surfaces with a damp lint-free cloth (every couple dozen scans) and then using a bulb blower on your slides too. At higher resolutions, dust particles get magnified significantly. One tip: when scanning from slides or negatives, you need to be meticulous about cleaning the platen and the underside of the lid. In general, expensive film + expensive processor - those have aged best. Any shots of (just) buildings or scenery were scrapped. ![]() Many of them are beet red in tint! Of consumer film, I think the Ektachrome aged better than Kodachrome - but not always. 50 yrs old), by far the worst I've found have been the "tourist" slides one could buy for professional pictures to show off. The specific color correction needed has varied widely for me based on a number of parameters: type of film (brand, speed), processor, type of lighting in the original picture, age, storage conditions (if different), and a random or unidentified element. However, they can suffer more substantial color shift, and you should expect to spend time correcting each one. In my experience, you can get much sharper results from slides and negatives than from prints. the only thing under Windows that I do anymore. Since W7 is end of life, I don't allow it a network connection. And lucky for me, I still have a Windows 7 partition under which to use Epson's software. I now have a V600, which is rather large, but retains the slide and negative functionality. My 3490 died after about 14 years just as I was getting into negative and slide scanning (I had limited myself to prints and documents to that point). But Epson's software is easier to use than XSane and IMO delivered better results. That said, as I've done more and more, I've learned that Epson's automatic setting can overshoot into the blue and green, so manual tweaking is often needed anyway. XSane did provide some color adjustment tools, but nothing "automatic" like under Epson's software. Epson's software does not work under Linux, though there is the VueScan option. I got my Epson Perfection 3490 to work under Linux Mint using XSane. Here's a bit of my experience with it all thus far: I'm in a similar boat, with 1000 slides, 3000 negatives, and even more prints (the negatives are a subset of the prints that is, some prints were given to us, but we don't have the negatives). I've not scanned under the Pi, but here's my experience under Linux (which may or may not translate), and with a couple Epson scanners: It is by far the best scanning software available for any OS.I'm interested in what you find/decide - please report back as you find solutions (or even if you don't). But I don't know what I should read.Īs to other scanning software, over the years I've tried them, and noone of them work for me as well as Vuescan. I gues I don't understand theme, and I should read some of te documentation. So you certainly identified the problem, but I'm still not sure what the best way to fix it is. I can do that with the default Shell theme or with any of the choices for Shell theme. I can change Adwaita but only to High Contrast. With Windows, GTK+, and Cursor having default Adwaita There is also Xsane too.ĬoffeeI tried to follow instructions for changing the shell theme, but none of the coices I got does vuescan differently.īUT, whether or not I change the shell theme, using the tweak tool, under Appearence, Seems to do a good job with my Brother MFC-9125cn printer/scanner. The error seems to relate to the Adwaita theme. ![]() I think your problem might have to do with your theme. So, I downloaded the program and ran the binary and it ran fine.
